But I'm still inclined to suspect that what's really happening is that Elspeth is (perhaps not very wittingly) thinking, "There's this thing that everyone says is evil, and so I've learnt to call it evil too, but it's what I really desire, so it seems to me to be a good, therefore evil must be good", whereas if Elspeth were more honest with herself, she'd just think "I don't believe that what they say is evil really is evil; I think it's just plain good."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-1169688723824123712007-01-25T12:32:00.000+11:002007-01-25T12:32:00.000+11:00Considering I googled the song last night, and cut...Considering I googled the song last night, and cut and paste from a version with the name 'Roberta Flack' at the top, the state of my memory is not very impressive...

Considering my own appalling faculties, perhaps I'm in no position to judge, but I'd imagine there's no amount of things that people aren't capable of believing in - including 'GOOD' = 'EVIL'. I'd come up with a few examples of common contradictions, but my faculties being as they are...TimThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10333303180015967125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-1169684159470355932007-01-25T11:15:00.000+11:002007-01-25T11:15:00.000+11:00Roberta Flack wrote the "Killing me softly" song; ...Roberta Flack wrote the "Killing me softly" song; I doubt I need to explain more (although there remains the question of why I thought using the word "flack" would therefore be funny).

On "evil is good", I'm guessing that anyone who makes this claim is using the terms inconsistently, i.e., "evil" as defined by person X won't be "good" as defined by person X, but it might be "good" if you invoke person Y's definition. X might think disobedience to church and state is "evil"; Y thinks disobedience to church and state is necessary for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and is therefore "good"; so Y adopts X's term "evil" and proclaims evil to be good. All this is just a matter of semantic confusion, and it doesn't bother me very much. William Blake kicked it all off in The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.

The idea of actually believing that the literal opposite-of-good is good is just absurd. I don't think anyone with any activity in the cerebral cortex could entertain that principle for long.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-1169682647273042792007-01-25T10:50:00.000+11:002007-01-25T10:50:00.000+11:00I don't geddit. It smacks too much of New Age 'religion is what you make of it' stuff. 'Hey, man - in my world, EVIL is GOOD.' It all seems to be based on boring conspiracy theory stuff.

Give me Old Testament YHWH and his smitings any day!

(Probability that this post will be commented on by defensive Satanists: was 1: 100, now has increased to 7: 100.)TimThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10333303180015967125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-1169679646248369572007-01-25T10:00:00.000+11:002007-01-25T10:00:00.000+11:00You'll cop a lot of FLACK for this one (sorry; tha...You'll cop a lot of FLACK for this one (sorry; that was so obvious I couldn't help myself). I know a coupla Satanists, and they're two of the most socially undisruptive people I've ever met. Married; two kids; Mrs Satanist works at home; Mr Satanist makes the money. Not to get all judgemental on their *sses, but I'm tempted to think their Satanism is just for Sundays. Sheesh.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-1169672660107379402007-01-25T08:04:00.000+11:002007-01-25T08:04:00.000+11:00Indeed I have. Its creepy to see the lyrics again here
http://scribblersdelight.blogspot.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
