For instance, J.K. Rowling I read was often called the next Dahl, though I think now that's been dumped and many start trying to call themselves the next Rowling.

Few come close to his mix of humour and blackness and silliness. A lot of it's quite gruesome (especially the adult stories) or could be quite "offensive" with the comic relief mixed in, depends on your taste as to whether you think he's gone too far or not.

It was very different from what I had been reading, which was plowing through each of the Anne of Green Gables series books in turn. I love Anne too, but the magic of Anne is derived from a very different ... erhh ... source!Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16371925558254933645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-55085751990058145642009-03-26T19:20:00.000+11:002009-03-26T19:20:00.000+11:00I like the way this post has a juxtaposition of th...I like the way this post has a juxtaposition of the words 'Stephen Conroy' and 'porn-reading sexual libertines'.

And o how I chortled at the Uncle Oswald stories when I first read them, Maria. I've also read the extracts in his other volumes about the sexual encounter with the leper in the desert, and the perfume that makes people go crazy with lust.

Smashing read, highly recommended!Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16371925558254933645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-6115235359573597582009-03-26T14:30:00.000+11:002009-03-26T14:30:00.000+11:00Maybe your post has this a bit arse-about. I wouldn't be surprised if today's moralisers are from parents who didn't moralise much, but disappointed their children somehow in their behaviour.

Just a theory.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04108945551064939734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-55022815144292952832009-03-26T08:16:00.000+11:002009-03-26T08:16:00.000+11:00There will only ever be one Roxon for me, whose 'E...There will only ever be one Roxon for me, whose 'Encyclopedia' was the bible of my teenage years:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillian_Roxon

She surely Rocks-on...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529903.post-25542857813937406592009-03-25T18:07:00.000+11:002009-03-25T18:07:00.000+11:00Ah Stephen Conroy.
