Do you wear your bow tie with irony or with absolute sincerity?

(Just the other week I was with my sister and I spotted some of those pre-tied ties on the elastic bands. For some reason I was previously unaware of their existence, but I certainly laughed very hard).

  2. How could you ask such a question? Sincerity, all the way! The bow-tie is a much underappreciated item of gentleman's apparel.

Of course a bow tie must be worn with absolute sincerity at all times, but the linked article attributes much to hipster irony, so I'm not sure it's a full-blown renaissance (not wanting to rain on your parade). Certainly, we womenfolk must be cautious of the ironic bow tie.

  4. Fancy suggesting that Tim is anything but sincere in what he says and does!

I saw an older gentleman [an actual one] wearing a bow-tie the other night. He almost looked good.

That's clearly not what I meant.

  6. Er...a thousand thousand apologies?

I saw an opportunity for a joke - albeit a slight one - and took it. Once again, I apologise etc etc etc.

  7. Are you sure they don't mean 'botox'?

  8. Maybe both at once? It would be a fearsome combination, to be sure...

  9. In sum: genuine jollity, dandyish one-upmanship and manliness.

Who'd have thought that your little bit of fabric was so heavily symbolic of your very being Timmy?
