Today I am thinking about Copperfart! You remember them:
Ah, nostalgia for inane advertisements first heard in your childhood - and which you have since tried and failed to erase from your memory thus releasing you from their hideous talonlike grasp - is a complex emotion isn't it?
Good God. The 1990s were horrible and wonderful, weren't they.

Mostly I remember the Copperart guy being louder and faster. Maybe the ads became progressively less placid.
ReplyDeleteI realised I was irritating all my friends when I kept talking about the way Wipeout wasn't a patch on It's A Knockout. So I looked it up, and verily, it was shit.
ReplyDeleteYou youngsters! I'm sure I could top you with an ad from the 1970's (as there was almost nothing of cultural value from that decade, save Steven Spielberg's first films and Star Wars) but I can't remember any right now...
ReplyDeleteThis 70's ad is noteworthy for the, um, slight change in societal attitudes it indicates. I wonder if the very "average joe" red haired guy has since had a melanoma. (Sounds mean, but sunblock was not so big back then.)

I had it placed in my memory as from the '80s. I also kept on thinking of it as Copper Mart.
ReplyDeleteIt was either this or the Tarn Off lady, Steve.
I have spent a decade trying to remove Copperart from the memory banks. Thanks for stuffing up the erasure process!
