Just so long as it's not do-gooder English. Yeah at poetry slams especially the first reader will be a sacrificial poet - someone not competing, just there to give the judges a chance to warm up in their judging, partly because at slams there's often a phenomena of 'score creep' - the later entrants usually getting higher scores than the earlier entrants.
I am assume there is a story behind this, from something that recently might have happened to you at a poetry slam, by any chance?
