Mathematical Problem

Suppose, just hypothetically speaking, that I had spent a night reading poetry in a Sydney pub and listening to others reading poetry. Then, for the sake of argument, suppose that I had gone out with some friends afterwards and had one or two or ten drinks. Then suppose, in theory, that I had gone to catch the train afterwards and drank coffee with one of the poets for an hour while waiting for another coffee to come in. Assume, further, that I was unable to sleep on the train journey home. And that by the time I got home it was light anyway and that I decided not to go home at all, but to on and do - like, you know, STUFF - at Raymond Terrace.

Assuming all these things to be true:

a) Should I feel more tired than I do now?

b) Would this have an effect on my productivity at work tomorrow - practically speaking?

a) No, your body has kicked into reserve supplies and has accepted the fact that you will be depriving it of a night's sleep.
b) Yes. By tomorrow you will have destroyed a multitude of irreplaceable brain cells and you will suffer from low-quality-of-life syndrome forever.
c) Congrats on coming third! You beat lots of established poets at their own game!
d) Get some sleep.
e) Hang on, did you propose to me last nite?

Der Tim, everyone knows that if you chuck a sickie then you take off 2 days not one. Otherwise it looks like you are chucking a sickie. I think I need to write the manifesto of sickie throwing.

a) You must be right, Gem. This not-sleep-during night thing is rare for me;

b) Brain cells I won't need at work anyway :)

c)That was second. If I got third prize, I would have ended up with a free copy of Tug's zine, plus strawberry flavoured condoms! (Instead of the crappy wine I did get... although I soon solved that problem, and hurled it at a fellow poet-in-need...)

d) Nah. Don't feel like it. I'm too excited, I have a chess players dinner on tonight, and we're going to party the hour away! We chess players are party animals!

e) Yes, I did propose to you, but we'll just keep that between you, me, and my multitude of readers, eh?

f) Wow, look what I wrote:

...drank coffee with one of the poets for an hour while waiting for another coffee to come in... I must be tired;

g) Sadly, Kath, I can't chuck a sickie :( - since I work at a company where they basically do investigations on people who do just that, take out sickies...

Year-long or life-long sickies, but sickies nonetheless.

Sorry, SECOND! Even better. If I had known you were going to donate your wine to a poet in need I would have taken it from you earlier...

You should come down for the Citizens of Language thing on November 6.
