Do not presume to assume

Sometimes you see a word or a phrase that just leaps out at you. It might be, say, the name of an organisation, and the presence of one simple word shows you that what they assume they are about, and what they assume their assumptions are, are two different and separate things. Such as...

McCusker Centre for Action on Alcohol and Youth

For Too Long We Have Allowed Youth To Endanger Our Way of Life. Isn't It Time We Did Something About the Scourge of Youthfulness that is Sweeping Our Nation? Curiously, that particular Mc appears in my family tree. They're all high functioning alcoholics, thank you very much.

Further thoughts: the McCuskers I know are very keen at promoting youth and alcohol. Mainly because they're a bunch of crotchety old drunks and we can't keep up with them which makes them feel, as our elders, as though they've failed.

I'm cheering them on in their efforts to promote youth, alcohol, and youthful alcohol drinking. The world is not as far gone as I thought it was.

Yeah, yeah, it's great until you've been drunk under the table by someone who'd nearly 70 who goes on to wake hideously early the next morning without any sign of a hangover. Repeatedly.

That does sound depressing. It's funny how sustained bouts of drinking over the decades can change the metabolism of a drinker in that way, so things like hangovers are altered.

Then again as the adage says, you can drink your way out of a hangover, which suggests how they avoid that is by perpetually topping themselves up so they are insensible to it.
