Terse and Werse

... He made the startling revelation "you use a lot of big words"... Does Spelling Impact On Sex Appeal, Brunette's Blog

Big words? Stuff big words! If you can't daze, faze, haze, or craze a friend with one flick of the tongue and a few choice words, then you should not speak at all!

God spoke less and spoke wise when he said,

"I am that I am."

The Bard's best lines were made of words a mere one phone long:

"To be, or not to be...."

"I am not what I am ..."

Bill Blake, who 'Saw the world in a grain of sand', could not mince his words, since there was not much there to mince in the first place:

"Ah! Rose! Thou art sick!"

Who needs tongue flicks when one click will do? The world is rife with small words, dwarf quirks of our tongues; to know them is to say them; to say them is to love them:

Amp
Querne
Plinth
Synch
Flinch
Adze
Copse
Hutch
Hooch
Swill
Plunk
Mmm
Blurb
Blog
I
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargghhh
A
Gaul

Crag
Moue
Plonk
Ink
Queue
Zest

Now, I don't know what putz first said these words or what foul hooch they had just swilled, but I want some of it!

"I told him to go forth and flourish, but not in those words" - Woody Allen.

"We Ents believe that if something is worth saying, it's worth taking a long time to say" - old Jungle saying. (Well, no, it's from Tolkien, actually).

I really should have read more of that [and more thoroughly] before commenting.

I'm afraid there wasn't really a point to this post. It was just an attempt to write something consisting of entirely one-syllable words, and yet make it completely incomprehensible. I think I probably did it!

I should offer advance apologies to Brunette, as this is the SECOND time I've ripped off that post for my own fell blogging purposes (Vibewire's offline at the moment, for some reason, so I can't)

Posts are meant to have a point? Have I been doing blogging wrong?

Elbow. Emboss. Blossom. Slumber.

Two syllables is where it's at.

It's not the words you use, it's what you do with them that counts!

The rhythm of the sentence is where it's at!

Mmm. Words. I love them when they're short, I love them when they're long.

Your use of the word "putz" reminds me that I have a particular fondness for Yiddish insults - others include schmuck, schlemiel, nebbish, meshuga...

I still maintain that many of Shakespeare's best lines are made almost entirely out of one-syllable words. Not my absolutest and favouritest, though:

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!

I still don't know what Lear is talking about there, but there you go.

Spencer was the same:

"I wrote her name one day upon the strand,
But came the tide and washed it away;
I wrote her name again with second hand,
But came the tide and made my pains his prey..."

'Washed' is a two syllable word here.
